Crystal shrimps A.K.A Caridina shrimp species are different than your regular cherry shrimps/Neocaridina shrimps. Crystal shrimp are a bit more demanding than cherry shrimps and you must not skip out on your water changes. These guys are more fragile and extremely sensitive to ammonia, nitrite, and high nitrates. Apart from being in the right range, water values and temperatures should be stable at all times, as sudden fluctuations can quickly be fatal. These shrimp prefer soft and acidic waters. They don’t appreciate very warm water either, so keep temperatures between 62-76 °F (16.5-24.5 °C).
A large aquarium is not needed to keep CRS shrimp, a small as 5 gallon aquarium is just enough to sustain a reasonably sized colony. However, remember that these shrimps are quite sensitive, and larger tanks are easier to keep the water parameters stable than smaller ones.
Beginners especially, might want to consider a larger aquarium, somewhere around 10 gallons should make things much easier.
