The Bleeding Blue or Peru Red-Blue Tetra is a spectacularly colored medium sized schooling fish found in quiet blackwater streams and flooded forest in the upper Rio Nanay in Peru. Relatively new to the hobby and only recently scientifically described, this tetra is deservedly very sought after in the hobby and remains an uncommon import. Like most medium sized Hyphessobrycon, they’re a peaceful, loosely schooling fish best kept in groups of 8 or more. Subdued lighting, warm temperatures (80F ) and soft, slightly acidic water will help these fish display their best coloration in the aquarium.
